January 1, 2006 Darlene and I decided to go out about 1:45pm since it was such a nice day. We picked up a couple dozen mullet and a quart of live shrimp and headed out to Bunns Hole. We caught about 6 of the biggest hardheads I have seen so me headed to the inside break across from the carbon black plant. After 20 min of nothing then a hardhead we decided to run north of Bird Island. We caught 3 keepers and 5 undersized reds before we started catching hardheads again so we came in. photo
January 7, 2006 Darlene and I took Devin and my niece Lindsey out this morning. We left the house late, about 9:30 and picked up a quart of shrimp and a couple dozen mullet. We tried stilt house cut for our first stop. The tide was as low as I have ever seen it. We caught about 15 reds but only one was a keeper. So we decided to try another spot for some bigger fish. We were running across California hole when I spotted a school of fish so we dropped anchor and caught 5 more small reds, a couple of stingrays and a small flounder. We then headed to South Bay but the boats were wall to wall and decided to try the east flat shoreline. We got a couple there but still no keepers. After a couple of spots in south bay with no luck we headed home. photo
January 8, 2006 Well, the plates are out, boat sticker is expired, jackplate needs repair, livewell pump needs repair, hinges are broke, looks like it is time to do a little maintenance. I made a deal with Darlene that instead of fishing the next few weeks, I would finally fix all the stuff that is in need of repair. I will continue reports after wedding and our honeymoon cruise on Jan 29th. See you then.
February 25, 2006 OK, the boat is all fixed and legal again. My buddy Randy, Chris and I went out to catch some fish. We bought some shrimp and crabs and headed down to Ingleside to try some snapper, sheepshead, and Big Drum fishing. We got a nice batch of sheepshead, a trout, and a redfish. Didn't have any luck on the big drum but still a fun day. photo
March 4&5, 2006 Darlene, Devin, Diana, Lindsey and I went to spend the night on Mud Island. We setup camp inside one of the cuts going through the island. It was a great time, we made hot-dogs, smores, and fished under a green light at night. I got up the next morning and fished a little finally getting a flounder and small trout. Had a great time. photo
March 12, 2006 Darlene and I met my friends Mike and Sharon at the dock to go fishing in their boat. We picked up some shrimp and headed out. We stopped at mullet island and got a couple dozen mullet and then ran down to Bunns. It was pretty slow, but we managed to get 4 keeper reds, two flounder, and small reds. We then moved to the Klondikes but managed only 1 keeper there. We stopped on the way back at last chance and caught a few rats and 1 more keeper. Was a wonderful day even with the wind blowing like a gale. photo
March 16, 2006 Today I left work early and met my buddies Randy and Chris at Cove Harbor for a little evening fishing. We bought some shrimp, and headed out to try our luck at bunns first. We caught several hardheads but nothing else so we ran to Yucca Cut and tried to pick up some drum. Well the water was not moving much and we go no bites there either. We then went around the corner north of Yucca and up the edge of the next cut and picked  up a couple of nice ones, broke off 2, and missed a few others then started getting hardheads. It was almost dark by then so we headed in to meet the wives for dinner at Pepitos. Great afternoon fishing with good friends.
March 18, 2006 After Devins basketball game today Darlene, Devin and I decided to take a quick afternoon fishing trip. We bought some shrimp and headed out just after lunch. We stopped by mullet island (or should I say no mullet island) and tried casting for quite some time and only got 3 mullet. We headed to a little reef we like to fish north of Yucca cut and dropped our lines. I baited 1 with cut mullet head and the other 3 with shrimp as this is what everyone told me they were biting on. After a few minutes the cut mullet rod laid over. Devin landed a nice 25" red. I rebaited with mullet and casted it back out. I then pulled in another rod and put mullet out on it. It laid over as soon as it hit the water and Devin again landed a nice fish. This time 26". We used the rest of the mullet we had and rebaited all and landed 2 more nice fish before we ran out. We left to find some more mullet , got a couple and came back but no more fish. Still a fun day even if the wind was blowing like crazy. photo
March 26, 2006 Today was the 1st annual Toast of the Coast fishing Tournament, my niece Lindsey was entered. We left the dock about 6:35, bought some mullet and shrimp and ran down the intercoastal. The water was really gone and so was the pipe marking the channel going to last chance, I missed it by 5 ft and stuck that boat solid in the sand. After some help from my buddy Cal, we headed out around Bird Island and caught a couple, then the wind changed and off went the bite. We tried bunns and a couple of other stops and eventual ended back at last chance with 3 reds. We then stopped at Stilthouse cut and got 1 decent drum. Lindseys standings and photos.
April 2, 2006 Darlene, Devin, Lindsey and I left the dock and headed out to catch some fish. We tried several different spots, but the wind was blowing so hard and the water was very muddy. We only got a couple of hardheads and headed back home.
April 18, 2006 Dad, Devin and I went out this afternoon. We ran down to Lindseys Landing and got some bait which was not easy with the muddy water and wind. Our first stop was buns, Devin caught a nice 24" red right off the bat then all we caught was hardheads. We gave up and ran over to the Klondikes and Dad picked up a nice 25" and 24" redfish before we started catching hardheads again. We called it a night and headed home. It was a great evening of fishing with my two best buddies. photo
April 23, 2006 Randy, Chris, Darlene and I left the dock around 7:30. We had picked up some shrimp and then headed down to find some mullet and menhaden. We managed to get a couple of dozen menhaden and a few mullet and headed off to try bunns first. We got one nice red and then started getting hardheads. We were going to try the L reef, and the klondikes, but it was too shallow and there were boats everywhere so we stopped on the way to bird island on the west side of California hole but no luck. We ran north of bird and picked up a couple of  reds then got no bites for quite some time. We then started drifting from there with shrimp and a popping cork. We got 3 keeper trout, and a handful of small ones. On our last drift Randy picked up our last red and we called it a day. It was cloudy and windy but not too bad. photo
May 10, 2006 Cal, Tito, Rolo, Tom, and I met my buddy Aaron for an offshore fun trip today. He brought along his buddies Omie, Chris and his deckhand Larry. We went fishing for shark and had a great time. We caught quite a few and lost 5, released 3 small ones and was back at the dock by 3:00. We all want to give special thanks to Larry and Chris for all there help baiting hooks, and gaffing our fish. We could not have done it without them. And again we owe Aaron so much for such a fantastic offshore trip as usual. photo.
May 13, 2006 Darlene, Devin, Lindsey and I went out to try our luck. It was Babes on the Bay tournament day so there were boats everywhere. We got some good mullet and ran down to bunns to see if we could find a spot to anchor. We got up close to where I like to fish and managed to get 6 nice reds among the boat traffic. At one time there were 6 other boats anchored behind the one island we were at. We came in a little early, it was a fun day and got some good fish. photo
May 18, 2006 Randy, Chris and I took off work early today to get some much needed stress relief. We got some mullet an ran down to bunns. It was very windy and the water was pretty muddy already but we decided to give it a try. We caught 3 reds and a had full of hardheads. It was a good afternoon trip and great company. photo.
May 29, 2006 Lindsey, Devin, Darlene and I went out on Memorial day to try our luck. We picked up some mullet and headed to bunns. We fished hard all afternoon but only managed to get 1 fish. We then stopped by the intercoastal so they could swim and they decided they wanted to try some wade fishing. photo.
June 3/4, 2006 Well Sat and Sun were the TPWD kid fish tourney and we entered both Devin and Lindsey. We headed out both days at 5:30am with high hopes of finding the reds we had been catching in bunns. The tide had dropped off and I just could not find any fish. I tried all my spots on Saturday and only ended up with 1 21" redfish for Lindsey. We tried again on Sunday and managed only 1 24" redfish for Devin. I then found out that the outside beaches were packed with big fish so now I feel pretty bad that I did not go with my gut and run out there to try. Well maybe next year. photo
June 18 / 25 2006 Darlene, Devin, and I left Sunday for the Frio River. We had a wonderful vacation, fished for Bass and Catfish but did not catch much. 1 nice flathead and a couple of small bass. We snorkeled a lot and saw some really nice fish but did not catch any. photo
July 9, 2006 Randy, Chris and I headed out to get some much need time on the water. We picked up a quart of shrimp and got some nice mullet, then headed to bunns. After a couple of unsuccessful hours of fishing we decided to run out to mud island and try some shark fishing. We drifted for a few more hours with not much luck. Caught a couple of skipjack, hardheads, and a small hammerhead on light tackle but no hits on the big stuff. photo
July 16, 2006 Randy, Chris, Darlene and I left the dock about 4:00am and headed out to do some kingfishing. We were going to stop on the way out and catch some perch, but the mosquitoes were so bad we decided to just go with the ribbon fish we had. We ran out to the first ship anchored and picked up a couple of fish, then the ship started up and headed in so we had to run to the next one and managed another 4 kings before the bite quit. So we headed in early. It was a beautiful day, calm seas and some good fish. No smokers but still fun. photo.
July 22, 2006 Well Darlene, Devin, Darlene's Mom and I left the dock at 5:30 and headed offshore in my dads boat. We ran out to the only ship we could see which was about 15 miles out and started trolling for kings. We caught 3, broke off 1 and had 2 hits in less than 30 min when we noticed the motor was watering very weak. Just then it started to run rough and slow down so I shut it off and pulled the cowling to find it was pretty hot. We let it cool and restarted it and it pumped good water as long as it was revved up but wouldn't pump and lower rpm so we loaded up and headed in. photo
July 30, 2006 Well I got my new boat from Kyle this week and took it out today for the maiden voyage. Mom, Dad, Diana, and Lindsey came with me. We left the dock late and ran down to mullet island to get bait. All we could get was finger mullet, none big enough to cut. We tried Bunns, South Bay, California Hole, and North of Bird with no luck, 1 rat red, 1 small trout and a couple of hardheads, but the boat ran great and we are back in fishing form again. New Boat
Aug 3, 2006 Devin and I left work early today and met Randy and Chris at the dock around 4:15pm for their first trip out in the new boat. We got a couple of dozen mullet from my buddy Trey (Bull Run Charters) and then headed to mullet island to get some more. We could only find finger mullet, none big enough to use the heads. At a little after five Darlene called and we ran to pick her up at Palm Harbor. We started in buns but after an hour and 1 move closer to shore we had only 1 redfish and lost it at the boat. We ran to Cummins cut, then north of Bird Island , finally after calling it a day and reeling all but 1 rod in we had a nice hit and Devin landed a nice 21" redfish.
Aug 6, 2006 Darlene, Devin and I left the dock and headed out to mud island. We got some mullet and tried a few spots but only picked up a few rat reds. We then ran offshore to see how the new boat handled the waves. We trolled around the jetties a for a little while then headed back in. We stopped on the way in and stopped and swam a little. We then stopped north of bird island and got 2 reds and headed home. photo
Aug 11, 2006 Randy, Ronnie, Kenny and I headed out to get something for dinner. They bought some shrimp and we picked up some mullet before heading out to Lindseys hole. We picked up a couple fish there and then started checking other spots we finally ended up north of bird and got 3 more but forgot to take pictures.
Aug 20, 2006 Darlene, Devin, Lindsey, Randy and I ran offshore today to try for some kings. We had 6 ships to choose from but after only getting 1 king and 1 Dorado on the second ship, and nothing on the 1st and 3rd one we headed to the whistler and trolled around there a little. Was a beautiful day but not much action. photo.
Aug 27, 2006 Randy and I decided to do a little exploring today. We launched at Conn Brown harbor and headed south. We tried several spots from Redfish bay to Daggar island drifting and throwing lures. It was fun and we caught a few small ones but no keepers. Finally we stopped in behind Ransom island and picked up 2 keeper reds so at least we had dinner. photo
Sept. 3, 2006 Darlene, Devin, Lindsey, Allen and I headed out to catch some dinner. We started getting bait and I noticed the wind was blowing out of the north. I hate it when the wind changes direction the day I go out fishing. We never do good. We got our mullet and ran to Lindseys hole north of bird island. We managed to get 3 reds after a couple of hours. It was slow and the wind changed slowly back around to the east during that time. We tried several spots north of bird and went back to lindseys hole but only managed harddheads after that. photo
Sept 16, 2006 Darlene, Devin and I took off this weekend to Cuero to visit her dad. While we were there we spent a little time fishing at his pond which was very low because of the lack of rain they have had up there. photo
Oct 2, 2006 Randy, Chris and I went out fishing for my birthday. We had a good time but fishing was tough, After several spots we did manage to get a couple of reds out of bunns hole.
Oct 8, 2006 Today we brought Tommy Gardner for his first redfish trip out in a boat. Devin and Tommy had to trade off fish with Tommy going first. After a short time a rod laid over and we handed it to Tommy. After a fun fish he landed a nice 22" red. Not it was Devins turn and his turned out to be a 19" undersized one. Tommy again grabbed the rod and it turned out to be a nice 24" with Devin at the net. Things slowed down so we pretended to run to another spot, made a bug loop in California hole and went right back to the same spot where shortly there after Devin landed his nice 23" to finish out the day. Both got to drive back and had a blast. It is so fun to take someone for the first boat trip and they catch some nice fish. He is hooded for life now and we hope to take him and his parents often. photo
Oct 14, 2006 Darlene, Devin and I decided that we would go camping this weekend. We loaded up all the camping stuff as we had already paid for reservations at Coleto Creek Reservoir. The forecast was for rain all weekend but we headed up anyway. We setup tent and did a little fishing out in the lake with the boat but no luck. After a nice evening of barbeque, horseshoes and smores, we headed to the pier for some night fishing. We Caught a few bass, a catfish and hooked several smaller gar. It rained most of the late night and early morning so we headed home early the next day. photo
Oct 28, 2006 Devin and I headed out for a guys fishing trip. The weather had cooled off and the tide was way out. As we were launching a couple of guide friends pointed out the fish were thick in South Bay so we ran over there after getting our mullet. The bite was fast and furious I was baiting the 3rd rod when the first 2 laid over. Devin and I land our fish, his a keeper and mine only 19", but still fun. We fished the main part of south bay until enough boats left the gut and then we ran in there and caught around 25 redfish, but only 3 were keepers. It was still a lot of fun and plenty of action to keep Devin busy.
Nov 5, 2006 Darlene and I started out early this morning for a short day of fishing. We had hoped for low tides again like last weekend but no luck we tried south bay, redfish bay, L reef, Klondikes and the middle of bunns with no bites. Finally I decided to pull up anchor and get up tight with the island. My new GPS/Fishfinder has water temp and as we got closer I noticed the water was a little warmer. As soon as we got our lines out we had a fish. As Darlene was fighting it I casted another rod out in the same hole and it laid over too. After about and hour and a half of action we decided it was time to go in. We at one time had 3 on at once, lost 3, missed atleast 5 and brought in our limit. It was a great finish. photo
Nov 12, 2006 Today we brought along Devins buddy Tommy and his parents Carol and Johnny Gardner with Darlene and I. We got a nice batch of mullet and headed out to try our luck. The temperature had dropped 12 degrees from the day before and the fish had lock jaw. We did manage to catch a undersized and and one 24" redfish, but it took most of the day just to get those. It was a beautiful day and the company was great, just wish we had found a few more fish. photo
Nov 19, 2006 Finally John and I got back out together. We had a beautiful day with the exception of a little more wind than we would have liked. We got a bunch of mullet and also bought some shrimp and headed out. We ran down to bunns and made a couple of stops there boating 3 reds and a trout. We later moved north of bird and got another red, but it was slow going, from 9:30 to about 4:00 we only managed those 4 keepers, 4 undersized and a couple of small trout. Still a fun day. photo
Nov 24, 2006 Devin and I had the day off for the holidays so we decided to go over to our buddy Toms pond and do some bass fishing. We used soft plastic worms and had a great time. We caught 16 bass, Devin got 9 and I got 7 plus we had a lot of hookups but did not get them to the boat. It was so much fun. photo
Nov 25, 2006 Today Darlene wanted to go the an all day scrapbooking event so Devin and I hit the water to try for some redfish. We only managed 1 keeper redfish and a couple of trout, but it was still fun. The tide was real low and we ended up finding them in the deeper part of bunns. Forgot the camera so no pics.
Nov 27, 2006 Randy called and said it was his last day off for the year and wanted to know if we could get out on the water. I suggested we go to Toms pond and try for some bass instead of going out in the boat. We got to the pond around 1:30 pm and started fishing. It was awesome, I landed 21 and Randy boated 17. We had such a good time, just like when we were kids.
Dec 2, 2006 John, Aaron and I headed out to catch some fish today. We picked up some shrimp, and tried to get some mullet in the harbor but only managed a couple of dozen. We ran down to bunns, but the water was way out and around 58 degrees so we decided to run over to California hole and drift for trout. We picked up a bunch of small ones on the first drift , then two keeper and as we neared the west side we hit 3 reds real fast so I quickly dropped anchor and we tried some bait. We caught fish till we ran out of bait. 9 keeper reds, countless undersized and a drum. We then headed back across to redrift for trout and picked up 4 more keeper trout and 1 nice red that John had to throw back. Was a fun day and produce some tired arms and a lot of meat. photo
