or Port Bay usually bait fishing for Redfish |
| January 27, 2007 | Well we have a lot of cold weather, rain, and too many other projects that I have not fished much. |
| February 19, 2007 | Randy and I took off this afternoon and went out to catch some trout. We got some live shrimp and headed out to find some water. The tide was real low so we headed to California Hole and made several hours of drifts catching small trout and the occasional keeper on each drift. We ended up with 8 trout, then ran to buns to try for some reds. We hooked a nice one and the hook pulled right at the boat, but did manage 1 before we ran out of bait and light. A fun afternoon fishing. |
| March 10, 2007 | I have spent the last 3 weeks rebuilding my trailer, new springs, carpet, paint ect and finally got it finished today. Now I will spend a little time getting the boat ready for the upcoming fishing season, Hopefully reports will begin soon, I am going crazy not fishing. |
| March 18, 2007 | Darlene and I went out to test run the boat as I have been having starting problems and had a few things to try the next time it did not start. Well right after the first stop we could not start it so we narrowed it down to the ignition switch and managed to jump it at the starter and go fishing. We tried several spots in bunns, north of bird island and Lindsey's hole with no luck. Then Darlene's rod bent over and peeled line when we finally got it to the boat it was a huge trout, 25". We later hooked a nice red but it spit the hook before we got it to the boat. photo |
| March 24, 2007 | Randy and I ran out to go catch some dinner. We got some shrimp, and ran down to get some mullet. Our first stop was Bunns, we tried several spots with no luck. We tried the Klonkides with no luck. After that we headed north of bird and pickup up 2 reds up on the shoreline, then moved out deeper and pickup 4 more nice ones, lost a nice one at the boat and had lots of knockdowns. It was a fun day. photo |
| March 31, 2007 | Today was the 2nd Annual Toast of the Coast fishing Tournament. Lindsey entered so I took her out to try to catch some fish. We left the dock at sunrise and headed out to get some mullet. We managed to get a couple of dozen and ran north of bird island to see if the redfish were still there. 10 minutes after casting the last rod out we had a fish on. It was a decent 23" red. 15 minutes later another rod laid over and we knew it was a nicer fish. After going around the boat once we finally netted what would be the winning redfish, a nice 26" fish. We caught a couple of smaller reds and then made a move but no more fish. Shortly after we were greeted by a dark cloud, wind change out of the north and cooler, and then a wall of rain. We tried to sit it out but after a little while we realized it was going to stay for some time so we headed in with Diana and Lindsey huddled down under an umbrella. We were in before noon so we decided to meet at 3:30 to go to the weigh in. Lindsey got 1st in the youth division beating out several other young guys that she went to school with. She is now the reigning champ 2 years running. photo |
| April 14, 2007 | This weekend Darlene, Devin and I headed up to Choke Canyon to do some bass and cat fishing. We got to our campsite Friday evening, setup camp, and began relaxing. We got up Saturday morning, made breakfast and waited for Randy, Emily, and Hannah to get there so we could head out on the lake. Randy, Devin and I took off about 11:30 and headed across the lake to a calm cove and started fishing. We caught 14 catfish, 5 were really nice sized. We called it a day about 4:00 and cleaned our fish. We then got up the next morning and Darlene, Devin and I went back out and caught several more before we had to come in to pack up and go home. It was a really fun weekend. photo. |
| May 5 2007 | Randy and I left the dock about 8:00am with 4 dozen croakers and 5lbs of Menhaden. We tried several spots, California hole, Bunns, and North of Bird Island with no luck. We then ran outside of Yucca Cut and still no luck. We decided to wade the inside of Trout Bayou. On the way in we saw some nice potholes and went ahead and dropped anchor to give it a try. Randy picked up two big trout and 1 small keeper red and I managed to finally get a nice redfish. We then tried wading up in the cut but only got a couple of small trout. Was a very windy day and we could not fish where we wanted to but still had a great day. photo |
| May 12, 2007 | Randy and I met at the dock about 6:30am and decided to try fishing at mud island and then head north to learn some new water. We grabbed a couple of quarts of shrimp and headed out to the ranch house shoreline. We managed to get a few dozen mullet and then stopped at the reefs next to Bass's bulkhead and try for some reds. We picked up a nice 24" and 27", and broke off 5 in the shell before we ran out of mullet. The wind was changing from the north to the west so we went to get some more mullet and try some different spots. Randy finally got a keeper in the boat and we threw back several small reds and some hardheads to finish out our day. |
| June 2/3, 2007 | This weekend was the 21st Annual Go For Fish Not Drugs fishing tournament put on by the TPWD. I took my niece Lindsey out to try to get some redfish. We fished the backside of Mud Island with cut mullet and she hooked up a monster 28 3/8 " Trout, and 1 small redfish. We tried everywhere to get some more redfish but no luck. We made weigh in at 4:00 and she had the biggest so far. Sunday we tried again but could not get to the spot where I wanted to fish. There was a guide there and when he got his limit he called another in to take his place. We had already waited an hour to get his spot so we did not have much time to go somewhere else. We did manage to get 2 more reds but fell short of 3rd by a half a pound. She did get the trophy for largest Trout though. photo |
| June 21, 2007 | Darlene, Devin and I took off for our annual week at the river with her family. We decided this year to book a bass guide from lake Amistad one of the days we where there. We met him at the boat launch and we headed out. Allan, Jerry, Darlene, Devin and I had a great time catching bass. Our guide Charlie Rumfield said it was a slow day but we boated over 30 bass, lost countless others and kept 14 keepers. It was a lot of fun and would love to go back to that lake with my boat and fish it. photo |
| July 22, 2007 | Darlene, Devin and I went out to swim and then go do a little bay shark fishing. We ran over to the shoreline across from the lighthouse and beached it to swim. I picked up some mullet while we were there. When we left Devin wanted to kneeboard a little so we did that then headed over to superflats and started fishing for shark. After several drifts we hooked up with a nice 4.5 footer. Everyone got to fight a little then we roped it in and dropped him in the icechest. photo |

Hello everyone. I have finally setup everything so I can update the webpage again. For those of you that did not know, I was recently diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. Since June 20th, I have only fished twice and I am just now getting to the point where we are ready to hit the water again and of course it has taken some time to get the boat ready after sitting under the oaks for several months. I hope to begin regular reports as I plan to fish as much as I can when I get everything working. |
| October 7, 2007 | Well the boat is finally running great, so off we go, I will fish as much as I can and hopefully be able to keep this report page updated a little more regularly. Today, Darlene, Allan, and I took off this morning to catch some reds behind mud island. We picked up some mullet at the mouth of blind pass then headed to the backside of mud right up on the shore, no bites, but the wind shifted out of the north so we made a move to put us next to the bank with the wind to our backs. We caught around a dozen reds, 8 were keepers with Allan's being 25" and Darlene landed a 28" red. We had a great time, but as it heated up we decided that completing our limit was becoming less and less important. photo |
| October 11, 2007 | Today was a rough ride across the bay but we headed to mud island again. We managed to get a few dozen finger mullet before I found a nice oyster to shred my castnet that I just bought Thursday. That's two in two weeks. Darlene, Devin, Lindsey and I fought the wind, rain and managed to get three reds. Lindsey got 2, a 24" and a 22", and Devin got the biggest, a 25". After fishing we ran back to the ICW and let Devin do some kneeboarding before calling it a day. photo |
| October 20, 2007 | My buddy Cal came by around 7am with Ray and we headed out to catch some fish. We ran behind Mud Island again, got mullet and headed to our spot. We managed 2 keepers and a few rats before running out of bait. We ran back and got some more mullet and tried a couple of spots with no success. We ended up in Bunns and caught 7 keepers, missed a few, and threw back a few undersized fish in a little over an hour, it was a lot of fun. photo |
| October 26, 2007 | My buddy Tom and I decided to take his boat out and run it since it had been in the shed for a while. We decided to throw a couple of rods in just in case. Well after getting the truck stuck trying to put the boat in a private ramp we have access to we decided to run to the Copano bay bridge and launch. By now it is almost 4pm. We pulled up and a fellow offered us some mullet which we gladly took and turned out I could not get any with my castnet. We ran across the bay and anchored up on the shoreline with the wind blowing to it. We caught 8 or 10 reds with 4 being keepers and one of the four a 29 3/4" monster. Good boat ride and fun catching fish. photo |
| October 27, 2007 | Today I went along with Cal and John in Cals boat since it had not been run in a while. We launched at the Redfish Camp ramp and ran all the way to Bobs old ramp to finally find some bait. We hit the mother load and headed back to Italian Bend to try our luck. We anchored up way in the back up close to shore and began slamming fish. We caught somewhere around 20 reds with 9 being between 22" and 25". We were done by 11:00am and we then headed in and decided to try our luck again but this time in Estes Flats. We launched and still had plenty of mullet so we ran to Bunns but had no luck, we then ran to Cummins Cut and got a couple of reds and a trout. After a while we ran to a cut in Redfish bay and got another red and a trout and then called it a day. photo |
| October 28, 2007 | My dad and I decided to try today since we had so much luck yesterday. We ran to the same spot to get mullet and could only find a few. Then ran to the same spot in Italian Bend but only managed 2 keepers and 4 rat reds all day. It was still a great day fishing, beautiful sky, good company, lots of fun. |
